After a little research and some help from AI, one of the best alternatives seems to be the HP 643931-001. It has dimensions and weight very similar to the FSP500-30AS. For the 12V DC side connection, check this video: You can use and solder any PCIe power cable or Micro-Fit 3.0 connector... In any case, I'll leave this post here for anyone else looking for cheaper PSU alternatives. The only thing left to find out is how noisy the PSU fan is... |

Hi bud, interesting info about the FSP500 pricing, I might hold on to all of mine now, as I purchased some to sell here in AU, if they price has gone up, that sucks. They are all scalping us now, its bullshit as these items manufacturing costs have not gone up, they already existed prior to all the world being set on fire. Many use the server style PSU, that's why I supply a rear mounting bracket for them, I don't have one of these, so please once you get and install, maybe do a write up on it, also provide feedback on the mounting plate, if it doesn't fit right, let me know and I can make the needed changes and you can test it. Also, with the fan, most likely its going to loud, I would be looking at resistor, or just swapping it out for a Noctua 4020, which will probably cost as much as the PSU. These PSU either need 2 of the tracks to be shorted to start up, or a resistor across 2 tracks to start up, so wiring that to a latching switch is a simple task. |

Are there any good, inexpensive PSU alternatives for the BC-250 besides the MetalFish 500W, ElCheapo 400W, and the FSP500-30AS 500W? The FSP500-30AS seller on eBay no longer accepts low offers, so it costs $30 + $11 shipping (around $41 USD total). Basically, I'm looking for PSU options that cost less than $41 USD. What about server PSUs? I've seen several on eBay for under $20 with free shipping. Any recommendations for a specific model? Also, does anyone have a wiring diagram or recommendations for connecting the 12V DC output and handling the PSU power on/off signals? Thanks...
