Req: Add WebView to WebView implementation in developer settings

Add WebView to WebView implementation in developer settings, ability to choose other than Google's system WebView.

Like mulch or cromite. Your magisk module doesn't add the option to dev settings (android 11 at least).

Like lsposed module anywebviewisok.

Unfortunately Anywebview also does not work. I can't install cromite because it has same package name as the system webview.

As I found out (very late :D) Android uses custom tabs since quite a while now, and therefor the system webview almost got irrelevant, because nearly every app that uses webview, uses custom tabs. That is much better anyway, because u have the activated addons of your default browser also in the custom tabs. So by tweaking your default browser, you speedup every app that uses custom tabs. It is like having a new phone since I did that.

Of course, it does not hurt :) But the amount of apps is already really low.

As Lordify's project seems gone, i only found one, for me working, fork: https://github.com/NoneBaiano/Vanadium-WebViewBrowser

Though as GrapheneOS, developer of Vanadium, claims using its browser outside of GrapheneOS would introduce new security threats, i cant advocate for it.

As alternative there once was Mulch by DivestedOS, which is dead now, it leverages the helpfull vanadium patches while targeting any OS, but a new project seem to have picked theyre work up again, AOSmium by AXP.OS.

I cant vouch for the team behind, but it looks pretty promising!

Haven't heard of it, is it better than using Chromite?

I decided to give it a try. I wasn't sure what "Install x2 for webview settings to be switchable (will be hard set to AOSmium on first install)" meant exactly, since as far as I could tell this only installed AOSmium and there was no option for any other webview. So I installed it, and it said to check developer options to set it. So I checked developer options, and I realized that statement was about developer options, but I only had the default system webview in there. So I rebooted, checked again, and I have no webview available now. So I installed it a second time, checked, saw the only option is AOSmium, then I rebooted after install, and now I have both the system webview and AOSmium, but the default was system. I set it to AOSmium and gave it a test with Lightning, and it works. Testing using the minimum of Android 10, LineageOS 17.1.

I'd be interested in packages for older systems, like an offline webview installer with included binaries for the different end of support versions like 5.x (Bromite 95.0.4638.79), 6.0 (Bromite 106.0.5249.163), 7.x (Mulch 119.0.6045.193-1), 8/9.x (Mulch 131.0.6778.200-1 or Chromite 138.0.7204.169 or AOSmium 138.0.7204.168(?))

Although once you get that old. Magisk starts becoming suboptimal or not able to be used, so a recovery flashable image would be better. I have a device that runs 4,4-6.0 that can be rooted while bootloader locked, but since Magisk modifies boot.img, it will never work, so it's stuck with SuperSU. I have another device that is bootloader unlocked and runs up to Nougat, but Magisk does not like it. There only exists a patched Magisk 17.3, and even that the device does not like, it doubles to boot time to use it instead of SuperSU.

Lsposed shell app, MMLR, Thunderbird - these crash if WebView not installed correctly.

I had installed Open WebView 2.5.2 in Magisk (Vanadium).

Recently I updated Vanadium WebView by installing Vanadium WebView apk from Github.

All is working.

But then I installed Open WebView 2.5.2 Magisk module as I was thinking not needing it.

So now Lsposed shell app, MMLR and Thunderbird crashes.

Should it be installed as system app?

Correct WebView is still selected in developer settings.

But those apps crash. I tried reinstalling Open WebView 2.5.2 but it's not downloading (Vanadium) so it fails.

Lsposed anyWebView module isn't working too.

What to do?
