It seems this component only supports using MD5 hashes. Gravatar migrated to SHA256 some time ago, and recommends using that for avatar URLs.
While MD5 is still supported by Gravatar, it would be preferable to use SHA256 for better security. A user's privacy could potentially be impacted when using MD5, due to the possibility of matching the hash with an email address.
