Question: Can I create a route with a k8s service as the gateway?

My scenario consists of a pod (wrapped by a service) that has a route for a number of clients in a different CIDR. Can I use this operator with a gateway selector for the Cluster IP of this service?

Hi!
Not sure about your use-case. The CR selector is used for the static route pods - where to run the pods. By this, it is possible to set up different static routes in different zones - as the operator sets up static routes on the hosts.
