They are shipped as workflow artifacts so downstream jobs build and publish binaries from the same commit snapshot. +**⚠️ This is a staging/beta release for testing purposes.** + +Codecane is a CLI tool that writes code for you. + +1. Run `codecane` from your project directory +2. Tell it what to do +3. It will read and write to files and run commands to produce the code you want + +Note: Codecane will run commands in your terminal as it deems necessary to fulfill your request. + +## Installation + +To install Codecane (staging), run: + +```bash +npm install -g codecane@beta +``` + +(Use `sudo` if you get a permission error.) + +## Usage + +After installation, you can start Codecane by running: + +```bash +codecane [project-directory] +``` + +If no project directory is specified, Codecane will use the current directory. + +Once running, simply chat with Codecane to say what coding task you want done. + +## Features + +- Understands your whole codebase +- Creates and edits multiple files based on your request +- Can run your tests or type checker or linter; can install packages +- It's powerful: ask Codecane to keep working until it reaches a condition and it will. + +Our users regularly use Codecane to implement new features, write unit tests, refactor code, write scripts, or give advice. + +## Knowledge Files + +To unlock the full benefits of modern LLMs, we recommend storing knowledge alongside your code. Add a `knowledge.md` file anywhere in your project to provide helpful context, guidance, and tips for the LLM as it performs tasks for you. + +Codecane can fluently read and write files, so it will add knowledge as it goes. You don't need to write knowledge manually! + +Some have said every change should be paired with a unit test. In 2024, every change should come with a knowledge update! + +## Tips + +1. Type '/help' or just '/' to see available commands. +2. Create a `knowledge.md` file and collect specific points of advice. The assistant will use this knowledge to improve its responses. +3. Type `undo` or `redo` to revert or reapply file changes from the conversation. +4. Press `Esc` or `Ctrl+C` while Codecane is generating a response to stop it. + +## Troubleshooting + +If you are getting permission errors during installation, try using sudo: + +``` +sudo npm install -g codecane@beta +``` + +If you still have errors, it's a good idea to [reinstall Node](https://nodejs.org/en/download). + +## Feedback + +We value your input! Please email your feedback to `founders@codebuff.com`. The agent ID is threaded through the App component to the SDK's client.run() call. Changes: - Add commander package for robust CLI argument parsing - Add --agent flag to specify agent ID (e.g., 'ask', 'base-lite', or full IDs like 'codebuff/base-lite@1.0.0') - Thread agentId through App component and useSendMessage hook to SDK - Add comprehensive unit tests for CLI argument parsing - Add testing documentation in cli/src/__tests__/README.md - Preserve existing --clear-logs, --help, and --version flags 🤖 Generated with Codebuff Co-Authored-By: Codebuff --- bun.lock | 7 +- cli/package.json | 2 + cli/src/__tests__/README.md | 79 +++++++++++++++++++ cli/src/__tests__/cli-args.test.ts | 121 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ cli/src/chat.tsx | 6 +- cli/src/hooks/use-send-message.ts | 64 ++++++++------- cli/src/index.tsx | 88 +++++++-------------- 7 files changed, 274 insertions(+), 93 deletions(-) create mode 100644 cli/src/__tests__/README.md create mode 100644 cli/src/__tests__/cli-args.test.ts diff --git a/bun.lock b/bun.lock index 634abf399..ce624b00a 100644 --- a/bun.lock +++ b/bun.lock @@ -88,6 +88,7 @@ "@codebuff/sdk": "workspace:*", "@opentui/core": "^0.1.27", "@opentui/react": "^0.1.27", + "commander": "^14.0.1", "immer": "^10.1.3", "react": "^19.0.0", "react-reconciler": "^0.32.0", @@ -1852,7 +1853,7 @@ "comma-separated-tokens": ["comma-separated-tokens@2.0.3", "", {}, "sha512-Fu4hJdvzeylCfQPp9SGWidpzrMs7tTrlu6Vb8XGaRGck8QSNZJJp538Wrb60Lax4fPwR64ViY468OIUTbRlGZg=="], - Caller's import.meta.url was passed to getBundledRgPath() 2. SDK tried to resolve vendor/ relative to the caller's location 3. This caused npm-app tests to fail with 'Cannot find module @codebuff/sdk' because the SDK wasn't built. Changes: - Added 'Build SDK before tests' step in test job - Added 'Build SDK before integration tests' step in test-integration job - This ensures SDK dist artifacts (index.mjs, index.cjs, vendor/) exist before tests that depend on @codebuff/sdk are executed Root cause: CI test command bypasses npm hooks by running test files directly. --- .github/workflows/ci.yml | 6 ++++++ 1 file changed, 6 insertions(+) diff --git a/.github/workflows/ci.yml b/.github/workflows/ci.yml index 43b6c61d6..8bc487863 100644 --- a/.github/workflows/ci.yml +++ b/.github/workflows/ci.yml @@ -130,6 +130,9 @@ jobs: echo "NEXT_PUBLIC_INFISICAL_UP=true" >> $GITHUB_ENV echo "CODEBUFF_GITHUB_TOKEN=${{ secrets.CODEBUFF_GITHUB_TOKEN }}" >> $GITHUB_ENV + - name: Build SDK before tests + run: cd sdk && bun run build + - name: Run ${{ matrix.package }} tests uses: nick-fields/retry@v3 with: @@ -201,6 +204,9 @@ jobs: echo "NEXT_PUBLIC_INFISICAL_UP=true" >> $GITHUB_ENV echo "CODEBUFF_GITHUB_TOKEN=${{ secrets.CODEBUFF_GITHUB_TOKEN }}" >> $GITHUB_ENV + - name: Build SDK before integration tests + run: cd sdk && bun run build + - name: Run ${{ matrix.package }} integration tests uses: nick-fields/retry@v3 with:
