The website UX could be improved by aligning with more modern website standards
When we designed SvDB, we wanted users to be able to browse some variants without an account, which led to some (in retrospect) odd design choices.
some interesting points are discussed here: https://www.authgear.com/post/login-signup-ux-guide/
I'd like SpliceVarDB to have a 'sign in' option in the top right of the website, and then once signed in, a circular icon that shows that you are logged in, and where you can access your account settings, and log out options. Account settings would include token generation and password reset. Commercial licensees should see the duration of their license.
Make the reset password option more visible.
On the signup side, I want a more robust user verification checks: fast-track approvals for those with an 'edu' email address, else human review for all others.
Stretch goal: admin portal to review new user requests, which would reduce TAT for approving new users. If not this, then in the email to the user account review team, a link/button (via an API endpoint) to easily approve (or reject) the request, which would then send that user an email notifying them of the outcome.
