Recent changes for translated articles (e.g. a0da384 ff.) proposed breaking changes to related-article elements. This issue serves to review the proposed changes so that downstream has a single point of reference.

We currently have the following use cases for related-article elements:

I pushed updates to spmj1749.xml, mosc345.xml, and suga481.xml to add a role to the translators and add xlink:href and hreflang attributes to the <related-article> elements. All three examples have <ext-link>s now too.

@davidmjones I just noticed that the existing use cases have odd markup (cf. above).

Their ext-link elements do not use xlink:href (like the new markup and ext-links in body content) but an attribute also called ext-link. Would you want to change that to xlink:href while we're at it?

Thanks for the clarification. I fixed that.

I've also documented the current uses of <related-article> and values of related-article-type in the texml document in the ams-platform-documentation repo.

While working on this, I realized that "original" was a bad choice for the original language article, so I changed it to "original-language."

I also regenerated proc16525 and proc16856 to update the related-element tags. Do you want me to regenerate any of the other articles that have related-element tags?

@davidmjones the current examples for lang values (ja-Jpan and ru-cyrl) trigger validation errors downstream since BCP47 specifies that a default script should not be included as a subtag. Could this be changed on the XML level?

I removed the script tags from the sample articles.
