Makiman83, think of them as branches. When going to the 3rd phase you get more than one choice: each unlocking some different (unique) units / technologies / buildings. That way they share their base art (and that saves a lot of work too)

low tier wore long aketons or Gambeson that was long second tier can be brigandine to late tier elite they can use plate and mail or MIRROR plate. for showing both after and before the Mongol tartar stuff.
